Joyce got married when she was very young and what was a happy union in her eyes was not viewed favorably by her new husbands family. “They never welcomed me into their family,” Joyce said.
Several years into their marriage, one of her in-laws came to visit with a special meal for me. “She told me that it was only for me and that I was not to share it with anyone. After I ate what she had given me, I began getting very sick,” Joyce said. “I had intense stomach pain and sleepless nights. I was so scared!”

Searching for answers
Joyce visited many doctors and hospitals trying to find a treatment that worked but nothing improved her condition. Desperate, Joyce began visiting witchdoctors in search of a cure.
“One witchdoctor gave me grass to eat,” she said. “But the pain continued and I eventually became bed-ridden.” Joyce was distraught and felt bitter toward her in-laws, believing she was poisoned.
On Tuesday, she heard rumor of a crusade near her home. “Maybe this God can heal me,” she thought. She took slow and agonizing steps to the crusade and when they called people for prayer she made sure to be at the front.

“As the minister prayed for me,” Joyce said. “I felt the pain disappear! Today is the first time I’ve been pain-free in two years! I even slept through the night!” She went home rejoicing.
A new life in Christ
The next day as AE mission volunteers went door to door, she recognized them from afar and rushed over to greet them. “I’ve always thought I was a Christian,” she said. “But I’ve never surrendered my heart to God. I’m so thankful that God healed me and I want to be a true Christian now.” She invited the ministers back to her home and shared some fruit with them. She was glowing with happiness at her new, pain-free life in Christ.

The mission in Meru, Kenya will wrap up this weekend. Please continue to pray for the team and for all those who have made confessions of faith. Pray for the churches who will follow-up with the new believers once the AE missions team has left.
